Most states have one postal centre of gravity. Delta State has four, which is why it carries four telephone area codes and several postal blocks. 320001 is the Asaba head office code for forms, the state’s codes open 32, and the range ends at 334111. Delta sits in postal region 3 with Edo, Ondo and…
The commuter belt along the Abuja boundary holds a large share of Nasarawa State’s population, and almost every person in it writes an Abuja address. Postally they are wrong. State codes open 95, reach 962104, and the Lafia head office code follows the national pattern at 950001. Nasarawa is in postal region 9 with the…
Taraba State climbs from the Benue lowlands to the Mambilla plateau, the highest inhabited ground in Nigeria, on roads that make distance a poor guide to delivery time. Codes open 66, run to 672101, and 660001 is the Jalingo head office code. Taraba completes postal region 6 alongside Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. It is one…
Check any Jigawa State code table online and you will find Kano’s codes sitting in it, a leftover from the 1991 split that nobody has corrected. Jigawa State’s own codes open 72 and run to 733101, and the Dutse head office code follows the national pattern at 720001. Jigawa sits in postal region 7 with…
The Niger and the Benue meet at Lokoja, and Kogi State’s postal geography still follows the rivers: three separate axes, three commercial centres, one capital in the middle. 270001 is the Lokoja head office code, and published state codes run from 260101 to 272105. Kogi is in postal region 2 with Oyo, Osun and Kwara….
100001 is the first postal code in Nigeria. Not the most famous, though it is that too: literally the lowest number the national plan issues, because NIPOST numbered the country outward from Ikeja. Every other Lagos State code begins with the same 10 and the range stops at 106104. Lagos shares postal region 1 with…
Kebbi State is one of two states whose published code range collides with a neighbour’s, an inheritance from the Sokoto split that has never been untangled online. Its own codes open 86, run to 872211, and 860001 is the Birnin Kebbi head office code. Kebbi is in postal region 8 with Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto and…
Thirty one local government areas packed into a compact state with an oil belt on its coast. Akwa Ibom State codes open 52, run to 534107, and 520001 is the Uyo head office code, though much of Uyo is newer than the districts that serve it. Akwa Ibom sits in postal region 5 with Rivers,…
Thirty four local government areas, second only to Kano, strung along the Niger Republic border and down into the farming belt. Katsina State codes open 82, run to 833102, and 820001 is the Katsina head office code for forms. Katsina is in postal region 8 with Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara. It has 34 local…
Hundreds of thousands of people in Ogun State write Lagos on their address. The postal system disagrees. State codes begin 11, run to 122107, and 110001 is the Abeokuta head office code that belongs on those forms instead. Ogun shares postal region 1 with Lagos and nothing else, which puts its codes among the lowest…
