Bauchi State runs two sorting centres rather than one, Bauchi for the south and Azare for the north, and both the postal and telephone systems recognise the split. State codes open 74, reach 752105, and 740001 is the Bauchi head office code. Bauchi is in postal region 7 with Kano, Jigawa and Gombe. Like several…
400001 is a code with history attached. Enugu was the capital of the old Eastern Region, so NIPOST numbered postal region 4 outward from here, and every code in Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi still opens with a 4 because of it. Enugu State codes stop at 413111. That code is more significant than…
Tin mining brought a railway and a colonial administration to Jos decades before most northern towns were planned, and the city still has the named roads and numbered plots to show for it. Plateau State codes open 93, run to 942105, and 930001 is the head office code. Plateau sits in postal region 9 with…
Ask anyone in Imo State where they are from and the answer is Owerri, Orlu or Okigwe. Those three zones are not just political shorthand, they map onto how post is sorted, which makes this an easier state to address than 27 local governments would suggest. 460001 is the Owerri head office code; the range…
The whole Federal Capital Territory runs on one dispatch block, 900. No other state or territory in Nigeria manages that. Garki main head office is 900001, the codes stop at 905001, and everything between them is separated by nothing more than the last three digits. Abuja is the one place in Nigeria where addressing was…
600001 anchors postal region 6, so every code in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba begins with a 6. Borno State is also the largest state in Nigeria by land area, which makes distance, rather than density, the thing that shapes delivery here. Codes run to 612104. 600001 anchors postal region 6, which covers Borno, Yobe,…
Eleven of Oyo State’s local government areas are all called Ibadan. That single fact explains why published code tables for this state contradict each other more than any other, and why 200001, the Ibadan head office, is the only number here worth trusting on a form. State codes begin 20 and end at 212104. Oyo…
Kwara State is filed in postal region 2 with Oyo, Osun and Kogi, which puts it postally in the south west even though Ilorin is an emirate city. Its codes open 24, run to 252104, and 240001 is the head office code to use on a form. Kwara sits in postal region 2 with Oyo,…
Cross River State stretches from the Calabar estuary to the Obudu plateau on the Cameroon border, far enough that its two halves function as separate postal territories joined by a road. Published codes open 54 and run to 553108, with the Calabar head office code following the national pattern at 540001. Cross River is in…
Ile Ife sits across four local government areas. Ilesa sits across two. That is the whole problem with Osun State’s published code tables in one sentence, and why 220001, the Osogbo head office, is the number to rely on. State codes open 22 and end at 234103. Osun sits in postal region 2 with Oyo,…
