100001 is the first postal code in Nigeria. Not the most famous, though it is that too: literally the lowest number the national plan issues, because NIPOST numbered the country outward from Ikeja. Every other Lagos State code begins with the same 10 and the range stops at 106104. Lagos shares postal region 1 with…
Forty four local government areas, more than any other state in Nigeria, and nine dispatch blocks to serve them. Kano State postal codes begin 70, run to 713105, and the one to use on a form is 700001, the Kano head office. Kano anchors postal region 7, which it shares with Jigawa, Bauchi and Gombe,…
400001 is a code with history attached. Enugu was the capital of the old Eastern Region, so NIPOST numbered postal region 4 outward from here, and every code in Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi still opens with a 4 because of it. Enugu State codes stop at 413111. That code is more significant than…
Eleven local government areas, the fewest of any northern state, arranged around a capital that sits almost exactly in the middle. That geometry is why Gombe State moves post more easily than its larger neighbours. Published codes open 76, run to 771104, and the head office code follows the national pattern at 760001. Gombe completes…
A Nigerian zip code is six digits, it is issued by NIPOST, and it belongs to a post office delivery district rather than to a town, an estate or a local government area. Ikeja head office in Lagos is 100001. Garki main head office in Abuja is 900001. Port Harcourt is 500001, Enugu is 400001,…
Sokoto has been a seat of government since the early nineteenth century, and the old city is still navigated by ward rather than by street number. Its postal codes are straightforward by comparison: they open 84, run to 853102, and 840001 is the head office. Sokoto sits in postal region 8 with Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi…
