About Us

Nigeria Codes NG is a reference site for Nigerian postal codes, telephone area codes and the practical questions that come with them.

What we publish

The core of the site is a guide to the postal code of every Nigerian state, covering all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, together with an explainer on how the six digit system is structured and a guide to telephone area codes by state. Alongside these we publish plain language guides on banking, saving and investing in Nigeria, along with travel and relocation guides.

How we handle postal code data

This matters, because a great deal of what circulates online about Nigerian postal codes is simply wrong.

NIPOST assigns postal codes to post office delivery districts, not to local government areas. Many websites publish a tidy looking table mapping every LGA to its own code range. Those tables are invented, and they contradict each other: the same range is frequently listed against several different LGAs in the same state.

We do not publish that kind of table. What we publish is the structure that can actually be verified: the region digit, the dispatch district digits and the delivery location digits, the code of the state’s main post office, and the range a state’s codes fall within. Where something is uncertain, we say so rather than filling the gap with a number that looks plausible.

A change is coming

NIPOST is replacing the six digit numeric postcode with an eleven character alphanumeric Digital Postcode, which identifies an address down to the individual building. Every state guide on this site carries a section explaining what that means for you. We will update these pages as the new system rolls out.

Corrections

If you find something on this site that is wrong, we want to hear about it. Postal data changes, area codes get reassigned, and banks change their fees. Write to hello@nigeriazipcode.com.ng and tell us what is inaccurate and, if you can, where the correct information comes from. We would rather fix a page than leave it wrong.

How we are funded

This site is free to read and is funded by advertising. Advertising has no influence on what we publish or on the accuracy of the information above.
